Female Music Festival Features Local Acts, Empowers Women

Southpaw, a music venue in Park Slope, Brooklyn, played host to the Tinderbox Music Festival on September 26, which featured 19 independent female musicians on two stages. Although the lineup was quite diverse — hip-hop artists shared a stage with acoustic singer-songwriters, pop-rock acts and more — all the performers were local residents.

And the “girl power” vibe continued off-stage too; all net proceeds from the event were donated to the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls and Girls Write Now, a non-profit that works with underserved or at-risk high school girls in New York City.

Watch the video below to learn more about Tinderbox and to meet its founder, Alyson Greenfield, who also performed.
