The Wild Goose Pub held the first annual Staten Island Brewfest on September 25th, where attendees sampled beers from 30 breweries and 10 home brewers.
John Cocozza, owner of the Wild Goose Pub who started the event, said that the event can help foster the growth of the craft beer lover community on Staten Island.
After paying the $25 ticket fee, visitors were given a free shuttle from the Staten Island Ferry and a free glass to sample the different beers.
The event was broken up into two sections — morning and afternoon — and attendance was capped at 300 for each section. The bar has a higher capacity, Cocozza said, but he said it was the right number to avoid long lines that plague other beer festivals.
Aside from doing the festival again next year, Cocozza plans on also hosting a Spring Festival. He is looking at moving the fest next year to one of the parks on Staten Island, raising the attendance cap by 600.
